Meet Ichinomiya Kantarou, a folklorist/part-time exorcist, has the power to see and communicate with youkai. Though his job description says so, his attitude says otherwise, he befriends young-lings youkai rather than destroy them and he also became friends with the legendary Oni-Eating Tengu which was his dream since childhood.

Apparently, naming a youkai binds it to follow and obey the one who names it. “Haruka” is the name given to the Oni-Eating Tengu which Kantarou based on his childhood dream of finding a much stronger(Haruka) Oni, which of course came true. Together with Youko, a kitsune who practically the maiden of the household or in short the maid of the house, they embark on supernatural sleuthing, accept dangerous cases and most importantly struggling to put food on the table.

Set in the Meiji period, this anime revolves around fighting demons and a theme which for me was in a sense vague. oh wait scratch that—its totally vague. The show lacked focus though an overriding plot exist, the episodic format composes of suspenseful short stories about love, comrade and existence.

If you think this anime was great well, you better think again! Though it successfully mixes the humor with the seriousness, it serves a poor take on the supernatural anime genre.

Well, the visuals are gorgeous, to say the least. This series had a splendid watercolor effect on the background though the animation was less impressive hinting a low budget project. This resulted to a mediocre battle scenes that’s over in an instant.

All in all, Tactics is fairly entertaining (after all I’ve said??? haha!)—nothing fancy, but i guess shoujo fans of character driven supernatural drama will love this type of anime, or so i thought. I’ve only got one query left……I’m still out of clue on why it is named “Tactics”
